An international, photography-led journal exploring people, place and culture through documentary images, personal encounters and informed local voices.
Editorial method
Photograph → encounter → context → another voice
A photograph may begin with a person, a street, a ritual, a building, a market or an ordinary moment. The Journal follows that photograph outward into the larger stories around it: history, architecture, belief, work, music, culture and everyday life.
The visiting photographer's observation is one perspective among many. Wherever possible, it will be placed in conversation with photographers, journalists, writers, scholars, cultural practitioners and people who know the place from within.
Collaborative by design
The publication is larger than its founder
Everyday Lives Journal is not intended as a showcase for a single photographer. Editorial decisions will be based on the strength, relevance, dignity and coherence of the work. A guest photographer, writer or journalist may take the central position in an issue when the material warrants it.
Contributors retain copyright in their work. Any rights granted to the Journal will be clearly defined in advance, appropriately credited and limited to the agreed publication, archive and promotional uses.
Founding territory
India first. International by intention.
India is the first editorial territory and the initial proof of concept. Future issues may grow from photographic work in Peru, Japan, Morocco, Mexico and other countries represented in the Everyday Lives Documentary Archive.
Issues may be organized around a place or around themes that cross borders: work, faith, markets, colour, music, water, home, ritual or the changing life of a city.
The Journal is planned first as a highly designed digital publication, with the possibility of limited-run or print-on-demand physical editions. Publication frequency will remain deliberately measured so that each issue can be edited as a lasting object rather than as a content cycle.

Beginning with conversations
The inaugural India issue is in its exploratory editorial stage. Before finalizing its contents, Everyday Lives is beginning conversations with photographers, editors, journalists, writers and cultural practitioners whose perspectives may help shape the publication itself.
